Lilly Named A Finalist for FIFA World Player of the Year

US Women's National Team captain Kristine Lilly has been named by FIFA as one of three finalists for the Women's World Player of the Year. She joins Brazil's Marta and German midfielder Renate Lingor. The winner will be announced at the FIFA World Player Gala on December 18 in Zurich, Switzerland.

Hanks on pace to join Mia Hamm in leading the nation in both goals and assists

Notre Dame sophomore forward, Kerri Hanks, has compiled numerous record-setting accomplishments during her first two seasons of collegiate soccer and is on pace to join former UNC great Mia Hamm in leading the nation in both goals (22) and assists (20).

Women's Finalists for M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Announced

North Carolina's Yael Averbuch, Notre Dame's Kerri Hanks and North Carolina's Heather O'Reilly are the three finalists for the 2006 women's Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy. The finalists were determined in voting by Division I women's soccer coaches who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Controversial penalty gives the US Gold Cup title

The U.S. Women’s National Team earned a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory against Canada to claim their third CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup championship on Sunday evening at The Home Depot Center. The USA victory came courtesy of a stoppage time penalty kick from team captain Kristine Lilly in the game’s 120th minute after midfielder Carli Lloyd was fouled in the area by Canadian defender Robyn Gayle.

North Carolina 3, TAMU 2

In one of the most dramatic games in Fetzer Field history, the No. 1-seeded University of North Carolina women's soccer team had to rally twice from one-goal deficits to defeat No. 13 Texas A&M 3-2 in the NCAA quarterfinals before 4,487 fans on a sun-drenched day in the Tar Heel State. With the win, the Tar Heels (25-1) earn a trip to the NCAA Women's College Cup next Friday where the Tar Heels will meet UCLA in a semifinal match at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. The game time will be announced Monday by the NCAA. Notre Dame and Florida State will play in the other semifinal.

Abby Wambach scored two goals as the U.S. Women’s National Team notched a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Mexico in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup at The Home Depot Center. The victory earned the USA one of CONCACAF’s two direct berths to the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup in China

'Disrespected,' Shannon MacMillan decided to retire and get on with her life

Shannon MacMillan didn't have any reservations – didn't get cold feet, or in this case a cold index finger – when she clicked the “send” button on her computer in August. The e-mail was to U.S. Soccer, and it was informing them she was retiring after 12 mostly glorious years on its famed women's national team.
“At that point, it was just a formality for me,” MacMillan says. “I was definitely frustrated and I was definitely (upset) before. I felt disrespected, and I felt insulted ... But by then, I was like, 'That's enough. I'm over this.'

U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Greg Ryan has named the 20-player roster that will attempt to qualify the U.S. Women’s National Team for the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup during the 2006 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, being held on Nov. 22 and 26 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Notre Dame wins Big East

Kerri Hanks scored 57 seconds into the game and found the net again nine minutes later, giving the Notre Dame women's soccer team an early 2-0 lead en route to a 4-2 victory over Rutgers in the BIG EAST Conference championship game.

Senior Elizabeth Guess scored the golden goal on a give-and-go in the 99th minute of the first overtime session to give top-seeded North Carolina a 2-1 victory over second-seeded Florida State in the finals of the 2006 ACC Women's Soccer Championship

USA 1, Canada 0

Team captain Kristine Lilly scored in the 68th minute as the U.S. Women’s National Team gutted out a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Canada to win the championship of the 2006 Peace Queen Cup.

Naimo to lead Sky Blue Soccer

Sky Blue Soccer announced that Charlie Naimo will be the head coach for the W-League team and that Denise Reddy will be the team’s assistant coach. Sky Blue Soccer will operate a women’s soccer expansion franchise in the W-League – the highest level women’s soccer league in North America and a division of the United Soccer Leagues.
