'Disrespected,' Shannon MacMillan decided to retire and get on with her life
Shannon MacMillan didn't have any reservations – didn't get cold feet, or in this case a cold index finger – when she clicked the “send” button on her computer in August. The e-mail was to U.S. Soccer, and it was informing them she was retiring after 12 mostly glorious years on its famed women's national team.
“At that point, it was just a formality for me,” MacMillan says. “I was definitely frustrated and I was definitely (upset) before. I felt disrespected, and I felt insulted ... But by then, I was like, 'That's enough. I'm over this.'
