UNC won 1-0 with a Jaime Gilbert winner 15 minutes from time against New Zealand.
New Zealand produced a gritty performance and came within inches of taking the lead in the 12th minute, as Marlies Oostdam rattled the crossbar with a dipping 25-yard drive which drew the biggest roar of the day from the 1500-strong crowd.
